U14 Major Cup Leixlip 2 Belvedere 2 (2:4 AET)
Tight game where momentum went over and back. We took the lead in the second half - Aidan McConville put a corner in on the keeper and Senan Moriarty scored from about a foot from the goal line. Their equaliser was well worked pulling our lads out of position.
We took the lead late with a high speculative shot from Zach Fitzpatrick proving too tricky for the keeper but right at the end of normal time they equalised from a header from a corner.
Lots of tired legs in extra time and they scored from two set pieces; a corner and a free.
MGL u16A Larkview 0 Leixlip 0
Larkview’s 100% record against us stretched back to 2019, most recently beating us 4-1 before Christmas.
So our girls laid down a marker today and justified their place in the MGL top flight.
They've been progressing steadily and put in a super effort.
Our keeper Evie McNaughton had some tidying up to do (as did the defence) but no actual saves and we were a little disappointed not to win it in the end. Their keeper made a great point blank save at the end to deny us the win.
With MGL’s Christmas rejig we are in with some intimidating teams now but this was a really great start!
Under 16 Major/Major 1 League Cup: Leixlip 3-1 Stella Maris
Excellent performance from us versus a team who have only lost once before today and are flying in the league, we started strong and finished the half strong, going in 2-0 up with Goals from Lewis and Aaron Reilly. Start of second half Stella started better and scored to make it 2-1, we continued to play the same way and we were solid defensively and didn't give them a clear chance to try get level, some great work between midfield and defence, we then scored with 10 minutes to go to make it 3-1 with a great goal from Kaylum and ultimately killed off the tie in our favour. Great performance, great result from the lads today.
Leixlip 15 Major 3-0 Aisling Annecoty SFAI Cup (Photo above)
A really good last 32 tie between two really good teams. Aisling are the top team in Limerick with a number of Kennedy Cup players and showed a lot of quality early on. After a couple of dangerous set pieces our boys got into second gear and pushed for the remainder of the first half with a number of good chances.
The second half started brightly with Ryan Goode converting a Fiachra Martin cross. Ryan bagged his second from a corner and Jesse Cabral wrapped up the win in the last minute with a penalty he had won.
Could not have asked for more from boys , top class 1-15!
U14P St Kevin’s 4 Leixlip 0
Was it a 4 nil game no but again we started slow but not helped by the ref with a crazy penalty decision for handball after 3 minutes to put us 1 nil down. We held our own for the rest of the first half creating a few half chances. Second half they changed their whole midfield and like for like in terms of quality. We had to make two enforced changes due to injuries and that was all we had on the bench as 2 players went down sick this morning. 2nd goal was a free header disappointingly and then we tried to push on but the 3rd was another crazy decision where we had advantage taken off us and they scored. 4th was injury time cracker. The big pitch at Shanowen and their extra quality on bench told in the end but 11 lads gave it all and just ran out of gas against the top of table team.
